Dordana's family did not have enough food to eat or coal to be warm. A life touched in America opened the door to care for a desperate family in Aghanistan.

Over these last four years we have heard about the plight of those in Afghanistan through their families who are our friends in Houston. Sometimes it’s about the bitter cold, with little coal to keep warm. Sometimes it’s about hunger, with just some white flour and salt to make bread. Often, it’s about the inability to go to school anymore. The Taliban has shut down all schooling for girls after grade six. Women are not allowed to go out into the public unless they are fully covered and only with the accompaniment of a man.
It seems we cannot help with all the doors shut. But we have learned otherwise. One of our close Afghan friends in Houston has a sister back in Afghanistan. We talked to her this week by video chat. We’ll call her Dordana. She’s 18-years-old, spoke beautiful English, and smiled shyly like a twinkling star. She’s the youngest of seven sisters, all who live in Afghanistan except one—our close friend and member of our Bible study group in Houston.
That’s how we know about Dordana. We’ve sent little bits of money to help the family survive the winters. Just recently several friends of ours gathered money to help them open a little shop near their house. Dordana was calling to say thanks for her mother who can’t speak English.

We were thrilled to see the pictures of the counter, freezer, and goods now providing a steady income for them all. What’s Dordana’s plan? She can seldom visit the shop as it is too dangerous for a single girl to be out. There is no hope of finishing high school or going to college. As she shared this, her smile still lit up the phone. “I want to keep learning English. I will also teach my sisters.”
Better still, Dordana's sister in America, now knows and loves Jesus. She is sharing her faith with Dordana. Soon Dordana may have the greatest of all treasures to hold in her heart and to share carefully with family and friends. This is one big reason we invite you to be a Home for All Nations. Caring compassionately for people nearby is a wide open door to those in need around the world who are also unreached waiting for our priceless treasure, Jesus.
You too can pray for divine appointments and watch for refugees, immigrants, tourists, and international students nearby you. You can pray today for the many in Afghanistan who are struggling and now the many in America who are facing very uncertain futures with the risk of deportation.
