As we care for those immigrating near us, together we can reach back to their countries where great needs and a lack of the gospel coexist.
"We should be able to see in the multiplying opportunities to reach many foreigners in America a divinely appointed means of rapidly extending the third angel’s message into all the nations of the earth" (Evangelism 570).
"God in His providence has brought men to our very doors and thrust them, as it were, into our arms, that they might learn the truth, and be qualified to do a work we could not do in getting the light before men of other tongues” (Evangelism 570).
"Arise, shine; for your light has come!...Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather together, they...come from afar....The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you" (Isaiah 60:1-5 NKJV).
Over these last few years we have heard about the plight of those in Afghanistan through their families who are our friends in Houston. Sometimes it’s about the bitter cold, with little coal to keep warm. Sometimes it’s about hunger, with just some white flour and salt to make bread. Often, it’s about the inability to go to school anymore. The Taliban has shut down all schooling for girls after grade six.
It seems we cannot help with all the doors shut. But we have learned otherwise. One of our close Afghan friends in Houston has a sister back in Afghanistan. We talked to her this week by video chat. We’ll call her Dordana. She’s 18-years-old, spoke beautiful English, and smiled shyly like a twinkling star.
You may think God has not called you, but He has. These are His words: "Loose the bonds of wickedness, undo the heavy burdens, break every yoke, let the oppressed go free, share your bread with the hungry, bring to your house the poor who are cast out, satisfy the afflicted soul, repair the breach, restore streets to dwell in" (Isaiah 58). Jesus commissioned all of us to share the gospel and make disciples like Him from every nation and background (Matthew 28:18-20).
Perhaps you want God to be more specific with exactly what He wants you to do. He may give you a dream, an audible voice, or a clearly open door. However, He may speak to you through one of the following world needs that especially upsets you and makes you mad enough to do something about it. Explore them to further uncover your mission.
