Though Shen Shen loved studying in the USA, she missed her family back in China terribly. Many times she had spent lonely holidays alone at the dorm in Indiana.

One of our team members, Pastor Scott Griswold, met her on the shuttle bus as she returned to the university. He invited her to meet his wife and children. Soon Shen Shen in return invited them to eat a specially-preparedChinese meal at her apartment.

A few weeks later, Griswolds invited Shen Shen to a LaborDay picnic with the young adults from their church. She connected with them and one girl named kept in contact. Soon they were studying the Bible together.

Time passed and the Griswolds moved to Houston while ShenShen go married, graduated, and moved to California. However, they did not lose contact with each other. Rachel, one of the Taiwanese students in the Reach theWorld Next Door project, started studying the Bible with Shen Shen by phone.Later Alice, a church member in California, went to visit Shen Shen in her new home. They started studying the Bible again and soon Shen Shen decided to follow Jesus and was baptized.

Now she’s a mother with two precious children and her husband has become a believer as well.

Every year, over 1 million international students study inNorth America. The top countries of origin include India, China, South Korea, Vietnam and Nepal. These students are the leaders and future leaders of their countries, yet they seldom enter an American’s home or a place of worship.
